It has been a difficult week on Speyside, there has been a number of fish caught but it has been hard work, they are not giving themselves up easily. The forecast for next week is wet, with rain everyday apart from Monday when we will have some sunshine. The tides are building all week which again should encourage a few more fish to run.
Most beat from Fochabers to Grantown have had some fish. The Gordon Castle Beats are still catching fresh fish with seven landed this week and almost as many lost. Ross Wood sent me this picture of his first of the season.
Upstream Delfur had just one less going for quality rather than quantity. Adrian Harrop continued to catch fish perhaps not as big as previous years but still a nice fish. Team leader David Wood had the best of the week 22lbs from Sourden.
Rothes managed five, I could see a trend starting but the beat above Rothes had six. Craigellachie managed two with Peter Kyte’s being the best, his first fish over 20lbs.
Wester Elchies managed another with Rory Campbell showing his uncle how it should be done. Over the water, the Fraserburgh diehards managed two with Eric Paterson having his first from this beat. Laggan had a brace and all the Knockando beats had fish, this one from Slioch caught by Alex Ritchie.
Grantown managed another three, and the higher water should suit them this coming week.
