Week Commencing 5th August 2013.

Another week of low water, the heavy showers during the week had little effect on the water levels but caused a little turbidity on Wednesday evening below the Fiddich. The forecast for the coming week is very similar; Monday will have around an inch of rain, the middle of the week dry and some sunshine and rain again on Friday. The tides have peaked and there will be no new water till next weekend. I would expect the river to remain low till we get a few days of heavy rain.

Catches: The Gordon Castle Beats got close to seventy. Delfur had a better week than last week, with both salmon and grilse being caught. Mark and Rory again have been kind enough to send me some photos.

At Rothes Dan Drew’s party landed around twenty.  Craigellachie managed eight, the best being fourteen pounds. I was lucky enough to fish at Wester Elchies and we managed seven, it should have been more but I had a bad morning loosing three on the trot, they just would not stay on.

Carron were about the same with seven landed, Simon Roper was kind enough to send me this picture of his wife, Claire, with a fish estimated at 15lb from Pol Dornie. Although Claire has fished for a few days in Iceland this was her first Scottish salmon, Simon suggests it was caught more by luck than judgement, as it was the best fish of the week, I would not like to comment.

Reports further upstream are again scarce, although II understand Grantown had just under ten, with Monday being the best day.
