Week Commencing 29th April 2013

The river started the week at around the 18” mark and dropped nicely all week till Saturday when the combined rain and snow melt on Friday caused it to kick up to about the 4 foot mark. It has dropped back a foot or so by this evening and the colour is much improved. The temperature today has been more like May than of late and it forecast to stay for the start of next week. There is some rain forecast towards the middle of the week so I would expect river levels to remain up for the coming week. The tides are building all week and as usual I hope the mixture of fresh water and building tides will encourage some more fish to run the river.
Catches: As with the rest of the Scottish Rivers catches have been somewhat disappointing.
The Gordon Castle beats managed seventeen. Delfur four, Rothes five, including this one of three caught by Duncan Fletcher.

Kinermony had at least four, three of which were caught on Monday. Delagyle had five on Monday and continued to catch fish during the week. Wester Elchies had a frustrating week with three lost on Monday then nothing more till Tom Walker caught this one from the Boat Pool on Friday, almost worth the wait.

Carron, Laggan Craigellachie all were stuck on one the last time I heard. Grantown had a week of two halves with fish everyday at the start of the week and nothing at the end. Shungo Yashino visiting from Japan was extremely pleased with his seventeen pound fish from Poll na Gower on Monday.

I hope all of these fish have been returned to the river considering how fragile our spring stocks are!

Toby, just to reiterate the Spey Board has asked for all fish to be returned up to the end of May. All parties I have fished with this season have returned all fish which could be returned.
