The river remained unsettled last week which although maybe not helping the fishing it at least moved the fish around allowing the middle river beats some sport. There was frost on Thursday night whether this encouraged the fish to take is open to speculation. The forecast for the coming week is for some light rain on Monday, bright on Tuesday and perhaps some more rain on Thursday. The tides have peaked this weekend and there will be no new water for the coming week.
Catches. The Gordon Castle beats had over sixty for the week and Ian Tennant tells me they were not seeing many fresh fish till the end of the week. I have some news from Orton where this large cock fish around the thirty pound mark was caught.
Delfur had a better week with around fifty landed, seventeen of which were caught on Monday, a fine start for the week. Rothes also had a good week with Mrs L O’Brien’s party landing thirty; Mike tells me the majority were slightly coloured hen fish around the mid-teens. Craigellachie following the trend had thirteen. Kinermony managed five, thanks to Jock Royan for the photographs this week. It is nice to see such a fresh fish from the middle river in September.
Wester Elchies started the week very slowly but managed eight in the last two days. Carron had one of the best weeks of the season with thirteen landed. John Reynolds had a fresh hen fish measured at 38” I am promised a photograph for next week. Grantown had a better week than of late with over twenty landed , Monday had three fish around the twenty pound mark, two of which were taken on the fly. On Tuesday visiting angler Jim Gentleman had a 25lb fish from the Long Pool. And on Friday a 22lb fish was landed certainly quality fish.
