It has been a funny year, and a very funny month, the temperatures for the first two weeks were very much colder than average, this last week very much warmer. This last week daytime temperatures got close to 30c. The Weather is set to stay like this till the middle of the week when temperatures will drop to something close to normal. Tides there is no new water till Thursday then the tides start to build again.
it has been a hard week, the water levels changed on a daily basis with the daytime snow melt pushing the river up, and the sun beat down from an almost cloudless sky, coupled with an East wind, probably the worst conditions imaginable, catches reflected this. The Gordon Castle beats fished well at the start of the week, Alex Robertson sent me these pictures of the three fish he caught on Monday.
Delfur just about got into double figures, Peter Playdell-Bouverie with a nice fish, note the cloudless sky.
Mike Ewan tells me the warm weather brought out the local swimmers and he had more swimmers in his pools than fish, never easy! Upstream things were very hard going Craigellachie managed four including a twenty pound fish. Wester Elchies could only manage one. Carron had five. The beats above the Avon got into double figures I hear. Grantown managed four. Let us hope the return to normal weather helps the catches.
