It was another cold but pleasant week on Speyside. Early morning starts were not a good idea as it took till almost 10.00 am before temperatures rose above freezing and in some pools hidden from the sun the temperatures remained below zero all day. The river levels have fallen away to almost summer level and the water clarity is very clear. Water temperatures remain at around 35 c. The forecast for the rest of the week is more of the same.
Catches: Things are still fairly slow, but it is still only February. The Gordon Castle beats are still only being lightly fished, which considering the conditions I find quite surprising. Even with this light rod pressure there has been a couple of fish caught. Orton again not fully let has had a least four so far. Delfur had a fine week with five fish landed.
The low water conditions are not really suiting Rothes but the Gordon Angling group had two on Wednesday.
The beat above Rothes got their season under way when Ken Asher landed one from Jock’s Tail. I have no other reports.
