Looking at the forecast for the coming week May has at last arrived, it is to be hot and sunny all week. Now just to add a cautious note there is still some snow in the Cairngorms and whether a week of wall to wall sunshine will melt it all at once only time will tell. On a positive side the water temperature should rise above the low forties of the last week. The tides are still building till Tuesday then there will be no new water till the following week.
it really depends on where you fished to whether you had a good week or a disappointing week. The fish still seem to be holding down at the bottom of the river. Again the Gordon Castle beats had close to fifty fish for the week; Robert Herman Smith had two fish over 24 lb on consecutive days. Delfur had twenty two including two over twenty one pounds. Pictured below is Scott Spence with a 14lb fish from Hollen Bush and Charlie Bromfield’s 21lb fish from in front of the hut at Beaufort.
Things were less rosy at Rothes with only six landed, but I heard the beat above had close to forty. Craigellachie had a couple. Wester Elchies landed six but Rupert Birchenhall’s party hooked nine but could only land two, perhaps they should sharpen their hooks or their playing technique! Carron had a good week by recent standards with eight landed, Richard Meigh managed 75% of the catch himself. I fished Phones with Dave Sadowski and Dave had the only fish of the week.
Again I have no reports from above Knockando, till Grantown who managed eight. I was also sent this photo of last week’s ten pound seatrout.
