The weather forecast for the coming week is not that promising for anglers, or man or beast with an easterly or north easterly wind. There is also snow forecast for Monday and Tuesday. The temperatures should be just positive but the wind chill will make it feel below freezing. The rain today might just lift the river level but the cold weather will ensure the rise is not too dramatic. The tides peaked at the end of last week so there will be no new water this week.
Catches were slow at the start of the week but the cold weather and cold blustery winds certainly were a factor. Towards the end of the week the Gordon Castle started to catch some fresh fish, Blair Banks kindly allowed me to use his photos.
Further upstream I heard on the grapevine that Orton had a couple of fish but I have no definite information. The Gordon Group finished their let at Rothes with nine, one less than last year. Robbie Stronnach helped out the numbers when he hooked one from Creachie on Thursday.(Photo to follow) Craigellachie finished the week with two on Saturday. Wester Elchies though lightly fished again had another fish this week, a nice fish around sixteen pounds from the Delagyle Pool on Tuesday. Across the river Delagyle Beat have had a couple for the season. Mike Rhoden from Fort William had a nice fish from the Rhynd at Kinermony.
I have had no reports from further up the river, I hear from Grantown that they are very lightly fished, hopefully a rise in the water and a rise in the number of anglers will see a fish landed before the early Easter.
