The report on the Tommore Project smolt trap 2015 can be downloaded here. The trap was installed by Spey Hatchery manager Jimmy Woods ably assisted by the Spey Fishery Board bailiffs (Richard Whyte, Jason Hysett, Ally Grant and Lindsey Grant) and Steve Brand, Ballindalloch Head Ghillie. The Spey Foundation/Fishery Board are grateful to Ballindalloch Estate for access permission and close cooperation throughout the deployment of the trap.
377 salmon were captured in the trap, 350 of which were fin clipped salmon pre-smolts or smolts, all of which were derived from the 2013 stocking of fin-clipped fish. 148 trout were also captured, 48 of which were classed as parr; the remainder were either smolted or in the process of smolting.
The trap was a good addition to our range of assessment techniques. The intention is to continue its operation, facilitating monitoring of smolt output over a range of stocking densities.
