As I sit here about to start my report the sun is shining and it has been a sunny warm morning, but when I open the weather forecast it tells me there is to be 5mm of rain. Oh well let us see. Last weeks forecast was pretty accurate and the rain that fell at the weekend has pushed the river up and it is currently sitting around 4ft with some turbidity. I think the river should clear and fall away all week giving excellent fishing conditions throughout the river. Talking of forecasts, I managed to get 2 correct last week, some daffodils beside the river opened and Grantown caught a fish. Next week the Euro Lottery Numbers!
There is no more rain forecast till the weekend, in fact it is a very pleasant forecast, light or gentle breezes and temperatures approaching double figures, if a little cold at night. The tides have peaked and there will be no new water all week.
Catches: The warm water seems to have favoured the middle to upper river, though the fish still have to pass the lower beats so it is just a matter of intercepting them.
Again I have no reports of anything below Boat O Brig.
Delfur and Rothes both managed a fish apiece, photographs below.
I hear Arndilly had a couple. Craigellachie also had another fish.
Lower Wester Elchies had their first of the season on Monday, Edwin Whyte, pictured below.
Things were a little quieter at Kinermony but Alan Scobie caught this one in the Boat Pool.
Wester Elchies lost a few but Stan Baird caught this one in front of the hut on Thursday.
I understand Delagyle had 2 this week and I am grateful to Allan Sinclair for sending me this picture referred to in previous reports.
I hear Laggan had a couple. Knockando also had at least 2.
I hear that Tulchan are having their best start to the season for a while and am pleased to have a picture from there.
I also heard that all of the Castle Grant beats have caught fish now.
As predicted Grantown caught a fish before Easter! Mind you they left it late and made me sweat a bit. Visiting angler Mr Findlay had a 7lb fish from the Macleod Pool.
Finally Kinchurdy had their first of the season on Thursday.
