Board members

Board members are elected triennially, with the latest elections having taken place in February 2007. The legislation is very specific over who may stand for election (although all must be riparian proprietors), how many may be elected and how many may represent the lower and upper rivers. There are nine elected Board members, who subsequently elect one of the nine to be their Chairman. The current Board members are as follows:

Alan Williams, Board Chairman and Carron Fishings
Angus Gordon Lennox, Gordon Castle Estate
Sir Edward Mountain Bt., Delfur Estate
Oliver Russell, Ballindalloch Castle Estate
Dr Catherine Wills, Knockando Estate
James Litchfield, Tulchan Estate
Anthony Tinsley, Mandatory for Wester Elchies Fishings
Peter Graham, Mandatory for Rothes & Aikenway, Easter Elchies, Upper Arndilly and Laggan
Toby Metcalfe, Mandatory for Crown Estates

The Board may also co-opt and invite others to attend its meetings, but whilst these members attend and contribute to the Board's meetings, they are not empowered to vote. Currently, Grant Mortimer (President, Strathspey Angling Improvement Association) is co-opted onto the Board. Meanwhile, Scottish Natural Heritage, represented by Paul Timms (Grampian Regional Operations Manager) and Melville McDonald (Chairman, River Spey Anglers Association) are invitees. The Clerk to the Board is traditionally a Solicitor or Chartered Accountant. The current Clerk is Will Cowie of R&R Urquhart Solicitors.

The Board’s Director is Roger Knight, who attends Board meetings and is also a Director of the Spey Foundation.
